Day 6 – We ate lunch in Rungsted, got gas

OK, it was the other way around. First we got gasoline for the car, then lunch for ourselves. Gas is expensive here and the tank is huge. We paid just under $200 for about 23 gallons of gas.

Lunch was expensive too, but good. We ate outside at one of several restaurants at a marina in a town called Rungsted. It’s on the eastern seacoast of Zealand, the island that contains Copenhagen. The east side of Zealand comes within two miles of Sweden at some points.

We didn’t have a particular plan in mind for the day and yet we managed to be busy for almost nine hours. We pretty much drove the whole island counter-clockwise, most of it without the navigation system. We wound up in Roskilde, a seaport town with a Viking ship museum. The museum closed shortly after we arrived, but we still enjoyed the boats that are in the water.

Later we ended up parking in town and strolling through a series of bars and cafes along one of the canals and then Strogert Street, a pedestrian mall with lots of ritzy stores and cafes. We saw something unique, a restaurant called Dinner in the Sky. It’s a platform that holds a table for about 12 or so people. A crane lifts it about 100 feet into the air and they server dinner from there.  Crazy…

Walking back to the car we noticed several homes inside courtyards barely visible from the main street. One photo follows, others are on the Smugmug site. The site has become two pages now, look for the page controls near the top.

Finally, one of the fun things about traveling in other countries is figuring out what the road signs mean. Many are obvious. But what does this mean?

We decided it’s the No Blue Signs sign.
